Townsville Community Learning Centre (TCLC) – a State Special School, was established in 2002 in the leafy suburb of Mundingburra, Townsville. It was established to provide educational programs to support students, 6-18 years, with severe intellectual and multiple impairments. TCLC was established due to the closure in 2001 of two special schools: Mundingburra Special School and Aitkenvale Special School. Mundingburra Special School had catered primarily for students with severe multiple impairments and Aitkenvale Special School had catered primarily for students with a severe intellectual impairment. On the closure of the Aitkenvale Special School, the Mundingburra site was redeveloped and the students and staff from both schools relocated to the present site.
