As Principal of The Townsville Community Learning Centre (TCLC) - A State Special School I welcome you and your family to our vibrant special school.
TCLC is a state special school catering for students from Prep to Year 12 who have a verified Intellectual Disability. At TCLC we pride ourselves on providing rich, engaging learning experiences for all of our students. Students from Prep to year 10 access the Australian Curriculum in all key learning areas. The school has a comprehensive Whole-School Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework (WSCARF). All students in P-10 have Individual Curriculum Plans aligned to the WSCARF. Students in years 11 and 12 have access to the Guidelines for Individual Learning (GIL), ASDAN courses and Certificate courses. All students graduate with a Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA).
Student and staff wellbeing is a priority at TCLC. The school focuses on ensuring all students have a voice through our Communication Team. Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices are utilised across the school campus and are individualised to student needs.
Positive Behaviour for Learning forms the foundation of behaviour support to create a safe, supportive school environment. Student social and emotional regulation is explicitly taught through our 'Soar with Wings' program along with the implementation of the Zones of Regulation.
Our three Key Improvement Priorities are:
- Capability Development
- Curriculum - Effective Teaching and Learning
- Wellbeing
We look forward to working in partnership with you.
