Sky Lab Excursion

On Friday 25 May, all students in the upper middle sector travelled by TCLC bus to Thuringowa City Library as part of their current science unit, Earth and the Solar System. Students were taken in two groups into a mobile planetarium, designed and implemented by CSIRO, to discover the moon, sun, stars and planets via a light show on the roof.

During the presentation in the Sky Lab, students were asked questions about the Solar System and were able to see some constellations which are prevalent in our night sky here in Townsville. Some students were daunted by the dark tunnel they had to crawl through to get into the planetarium but, once inside, they were amazed and fixated on the light show above them. During the presentation, students were treated to a simulated sunrise and sunset as well as an example of what happened during the big bang. What an interesting way to soak up information!
