Senior Conference 2011

Six year 11 and 12 students from TCLC attended the Senior Conference held at the Ryan Community Centre on 31 August and 1 September. This year's conference theme was 'Stepping up, Stepping out' and was aimed at passing on knowledge and skills that students would find vital to their post school life.

For those students entering the workforce there were sessions on: dressing for work, bullying in the workplace, conflict resolution, and job interview techniques. The sessions were based on realistic scenarios and were a lot of fun as well as being informative. Some students particularly enjoyed the session where they had to choose and don the clothing suitable for a particular job.

Also covered at the conference were essential life skills with sessions on personal safety, skincare, support networks and surviving the party. What was great to see here was the way students helped each other achieve their tasks.

The conference had a formal dinner held at the Kirwan Tavern on Wednesday night. Students wore their going out clothes and looked very smart. They had interactions with students from other schools and there was a lot of pleasant joking and laughing.

The second day of the conference finished with an Expo by about 30 service providers offering post school options to our students. This was well attended by many parents, carers and students.
