Acknowledgement of the rich contribution that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who attend TCLC bring to our community was the focus of our NAIDOC week celebrations. Awareness of the culture of Australia’s Indigenous peoples was raised through a variety of class activities. Student work formed a great display in the school foyer.

At the whole school assembly to mark NAIDOC week, students of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage placed their name on a map to indicate their place or places of significant cultural heritage. Our guest speaker was Christine Hero, the mother of Elijah from our Junior sector. She spoke of her own cultural heritage and the way that their family teach and practise culture in their home.

Christine, the mother of Ohnja form our Middle sector, made damper for the whole school community. It was an amazing contribution to make.  Students just loved the taste. There was enough for all staff to enjoy the experience as well.

The contribution of these parents to our NAIDOC celebrations deserves Au Esoau, Koeyma Eso, (many thanks) from our whole school community.
