NAIDOC Assembly

Celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their cultures was the theme of our July whole school assembly. Past student, Fiona Johnson whose heritage is from Palm Island, told the students that she now works at Hungry Jacks and has a full social life going bowling and spending time with friends.

Guest speakers from the Indigenous School Support Unit, Aunty Jenny Wyles, Aunty Fiona Bobongie and Uncle Billy Thaiday shared some of their stories with students about family, identity and culture.

TCLC indigenous students shared their heritage with the whole assembly by placing their name on a map of Aboriginal Australia or the Torres Strait Islands. John and Clayton also delivered the ‘Welcome to Country’. Aunty Jenny said, at the assembly, that it was ‘TOO DEADLY.’
Students of the month for July for Talking Politely were:

• Junior School – Shania
• Middle School – Mitchell and Zac
