Kids Matter at TCLC

22/10/2014

The mental health and well-being of students at TCLC is a fundamental pre-requisite for positive learning to occur.  To ensure we nurture happy and balanced children, we have introduced a whole-school approach called Kids Matter.  It has been developed in collaboration with beyondblue, the Australian Psychological Society and the Principals Australia Institute.

The framework covers 4 key components:
1. A Positive school community
2. Social and emotional learning for students
3. Working with parents and carers
4. Helping children with mental health difficulties

At TCLC, we have adopted the Kids Matter phrase – Every Face has a Place – and we enact this every day by acknowledging our differences and contributions to our school community.

We recently had a school disco to launch Kids Matter and students danced, got photos taken with their friends in the photo booth and laughed and responded with joy as we played a video showing all members of our school community: parents, students, staff, cleaners, advisory teachers and taxi drivers dancing to the song “Happy.”
