In Maths, this term the students have been exploring the concept of number and place value.  Students have been counting and communicating number names, numerals and quantities from one onwards.  Some students have progressed to activities based on addition and subtraction.  In some classes students are also responding to number-type situations and activities in familiar everyday activities.  Next week classes begin a two week unit on measurement so there will be lots of activities around comparing objects.

In English, as part of literacy activities, classes have been engaging with the Magic 100 words that represent the words most frequently used in reading and writing.  The first group of words are the 12 Golden Words that make up ¼ of the most frequently used words and are ones that appear in most early readers.  This helps students to read simple texts quickly.
